I normally avoid clothing companies and right now the sector is getting hammered. Weak consumer spending, tariffs, energy costs, shipping issues, and major names like Nike, Adidas, and Lululemon have all struggled. So its not looking super hot, lets say... That said, Gildan has putting some decent numbers, and after digging into it, I think is worth looking into.
Unlike most apparel companies, Gildan controls almost its entire supply chain and manufactures, which are mainly in the Americas. That means less exposure to overseas shipping disruptions, energy shocks, and tariff pressure. They're also integrating parts of Hanes into their network, which could unlock significant cost savings over the next few years. The catch is that execution has to be damn near perfect for all to work out. Sales have softened, debt has increased, and management is betting heavily that synergies and margin expansion will offset those headwinds.
What caught my attention is that this is one of the few "boring" businesses that might actually benefit from a world with more geopolitical friction instead of less.
