Canada stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.31%

Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, Materials and Healthcare sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.31%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Curaleaf Holdings Inc (TSX:CURA), which rose 11.39% or 0.50 points to trade at 4.89 at the close. Meanwhile, goeasy Ltd (TSX:GSY) added 9.31% or 3.55 points to end at 41.70 and Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) was up 7.42% or 10.94 points to 158.41 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were ATS Corporation (TSX:ATS), which fell 14.27% or 6.99 points to trade at 42.00 at the close. Canadian Imperial Bank Of Commerce (TSX:CM) declined 5.38% or 8.58 points to end at 150.96 and Chartwell Retirement Residences (TSX:CSH_u) was down 2.72% or 0.56 points to 20.03.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 576 to 405 and 80 ended unchanged.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.94% to 13.65 a new 3-months low.

Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.07% or 48.05 to $4,529.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.10% or 0.09 to hit $88.77 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.49% or 0.45 to trade at $92.70 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.41% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.22% to 0.62.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.18% at 98.97.
