Investing.com -- President Donald Trump removed Pam Bondi from her position as U.S. attorney general, CNN first reported on Wednesday citing sources inside the White House.
Trump confirmed the decision on Thursday in a post on Truth Social, saying Bondi "will be transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector, to be announced at a date in the near future."
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche will serve as acting attorney general, according to Trump’s statement. CNN had previously reported that Trump discussed replacing Bondi with current EPA administrator Lee Zeldin.
In his Truth Social post, Trump said Bondi "did a tremendous job overseeing a massive crackdown in Crime across our Country, with Murders plummeting to their lowest level since 1900."
Bondi was informed she would be offered a different position. During their conversation, Trump suggested the possibility of appointing her as a judge following her departure from the Justice Department, CNN reported.
