- A Bank of America survey indicates increased optimism towards the Brazilian healthcare sector, with investors favoring companies like Rede D'Or due to perceived quality and earnings visibility. Concerns remain regarding competitive intensity and the performance of companies like Hapvida. Overall, the survey suggests a selective approach to the sector, with valuations and lack of clear catalysts limiting a more broadly bullish outlook. Limited impact on US equities.

Investing.com -- Bank of America surveyed 23 investors between April 22-29 regarding sentiment toward the Brazilian healthcare sector, revealing a sharp rebound in positioning alongside selective conviction across individual companies.
Overweight positioning in Brazilian healthcare jumped to 77% from 39% in the fourth quarter of 2025, according to the survey results. Investors are rotating toward companies with perceived quality and visibility rather than seeking broad sector exposure.
Competitive intensity, particularly from Amil, remains a central concern among surveyed investors, disproportionately affecting Hapvida while also raising questions for SulAmerica. Valuations and lack of clear catalysts continue to constrain a more bullish sector stance.
Rede D'Or emerged as the preferred name in the survey, with broad confidence in a hospital-margin recovery in 2026 and resilient earnings growth into 2027. Some 73% of surveyed investors expect higher margins in 2026 versus 2025, supported by improving occupancy. While medical loss ratio is expected to deteriorate quarter-over-quarter, only 26% of respondents anticipate a deterioration exceeding 100 basis points.
Sentiment on Hapvida remains negative according to the survey. While management changes have been welcomed, 86% of surveyed investors are still awaiting tangible operating improvement, particularly on medical loss ratio. Most respondents, 77%, anticipate a partial divestment of Hapvida's South region operations, though likely at a discounted valuation. Half of surveyed investors view liquidity and leverage as a concern.
Investors surveyed continue to favor companies with clearer earnings visibility, stronger balance sheets and self-help levers, such as Rede D'Or and Odontoprev.
