
Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Materials, Energy and Utilities sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.18%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSX:EDR), which rose 12.60% or 1.73 points to trade at 15.46 at the close. Meanwhile, Silvercorp Metals Inc (TSX:SVM) added 9.14% or 1.69 points to end at 20.19 and Barrick Gold Corporation (TSX:ABX) was up 9.06% or 5.35 points to 64.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC), which fell 6.98% or 0.55 points to trade at 7.33 at the close. Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) declined 6.90% or 10.40 points to end at 140.28 and Kinaxis Inc (TSX:KXS) was down 6.75% or 10.71 points to 148.02.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 552 to 414 and 59 ended unchanged.
Shares in Silvercorp Metals Inc (TSX:SVM) rose to all time highs; rising 9.14% or 1.69 to 20.19.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.70% to 17.04.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.32% or 14.94 to $4,745.64 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.97% or 2.83 to hit $98.25 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 2.94% or 2.98 to trade at $104.27 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.04% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.01% to 0.62.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 97.82.
