  • The article discusses the potential impact of a semiconductor sector correction on the diversified Vanguard Total World Stock ETF (VT). While VT's diversification may buffer losses, a broad market sell-off triggered by a chip downturn could lead to significant declines in VT, even with its limited direct exposure to semiconductors. This highlights how sector-specific risks can spill over into the wider market.
Will VT tank severly when correction on semiconductors comes?

Hi. I'm not saying we have a bubble, this post is just about the volatility of VT vs the entire market which is now heavily driven by semiconductors sector.

Since VT is so much diversified it has pretty mediocre gains compared to say DRAM or SOXX. So slow incline, but shall the equally slow decline be expected or will it tank as much as these sector ETFs when investors take money from the entire stock market? Trying to understand the significance of diversification here.

EDIT: My point and concern is that VT gets hit despite its low exposure to chips, as investors may start withdrawing money from wide stock market, not just semiconductors. Like semiconductors sell off = total market sell off.
