Key insights

  • An individual seeks advice on investing $300k from a home sale, given a substantial existing portfolio. The discussion may indirectly influence US markets by shifting capital flows into or out of US-listed ETFs like VT and IBIT, but the overall impact is minimal due to the individual nature of the decision.
Proceeds of home sale - where to invest it?

Hi all,

I just sold my home in italy (I'm from there) and after taxes I'll net about 300k usd.

Now I'm not sure where to invest that money (and no i don'teant real estate I'm exciting it because it' too much hasstle and pain and taxes vs just etf investing), my situation is the below and goal is to just increase networth so that if one day I don't want to worl i can just live off my portfolio:

Overview:

  1. Age: 36 yo

  2. Brokerage: 1.9m usd (already after tax as i live in a no capital gains country) invested as: 88% VT + 12% IBIT

  3. Retirmenet account: 280k usd (pre tax - but tax at withdrawal is only about 6-7% where I leave and i can withdraw it whej I leave the country I'm in which is Switzerland).

  4. Savings per month: 3.5-4.5k usd that goes to brokerage + 2k usd that goes to retirmenet account (35% me + 65% employer).

Gold coins: 30k usd (plan to sell them soon and put in brokerage)

What would you do with the proceeds of my house sale? Just contribute it to the brokerage or do something that long term could generate more money with more risk like a sector etf et? Any other opinions?
