- An individual investor experienced a significant loss in Micron (MU), impacting their trailing 12-month return. The investor is seeking advice on how to improve performance and achieve a target return of 35-40%. This highlights the risks associated with concentrated positions and the impact of market volatility on individual stock performance. While not a broad market indicator, it reflects the challenges faced by retail investors in navigating volatile sectors like semiconductors.

Today I took the biggest loss I’ve seen so far, and I’m honestly looking for some perspective from people who’ve been through this.
I started investing in Micron this month for the first time. Initially, things were going well and I was seeing some solid gains, but the market has been pretty unpredictable lately. Today alone I dropped over 5%, which pulled my trailing 12-month return down to around 32%.
Is there anything I can do to improve? My personal goal is to maintain 40% or at least 35% which is been difficult lately. I’ve been doing this since 2023.
Edit: Right now, I am completely out of market.
