Key insights

  • A European investor is questioning their portfolio allocation of 85% VT and 15% BTC due to currency headwinds and perceived underperformance. They are considering increasing risk by adding sector-specific ETFs like SMH or QQQ, and reducing their BTC allocation. The investor is also seeking suggestions for a better core holding than VT. This reflects a broader concern about international diversification versus concentrated growth strategies, but has limited direct impact on US equities.
I fele like im playing it too safe

Hi all, i feel like I'm playing it to safe with my investments. Since i was young I was always prone to some degree of risk and due to a high salary and high savings rate I managed to get to 1.9m usd invested at 36 yo (I'm from europe and living here, in a country with no capital gain taxes).

Thoguh my investments are in 85% VT and 15% BTC. And my nw barely increased in dollar value vs the last 2 years due to USD devalue vs my currency (CHF), BTC lag and VT average performance.

BTC has major disappointed me with its returns (i hold it since 20k and the volatility and risk doesnt really seem to compensate for its possible returns when i compare to to way safe risk reward etfs like qqq, smh etc.

So i think why hold it if those kind of etf beat it anyways and are a way safer bet?

Then comes VT. I like simplicity hence why i got it as I also want to avoid having 4/5 diff etfs and rebalance all the time. But i feel also it's too diluted and holds both possible unicorn and crap in the mid/small cao part. Though i like having exposure to international markets also as you never know when the next gem will be at (plus being european in europe its also a hedge against USD decline).

Though i always wonder if I'm playing it to safe now or if I should make some changes to my portfolio and I crease the risk part a bit. Maybe 15% in something like SMH or QQQ?

Maybe sell btc for a sector specific etf or wider one like QQQ while keeping a 7p% ish in something like VT (is there also a better core holding btw you'd suggest)?

Any ideas are welcome.
