Meta is expanding its partnership with Broadcom, in another win for the AI chipmaker.

Shares of Broadcom (AVGO) were up about 3% in recent trading after the chipmaker said it struck a deal expanding its work with Meta Platforms (META) to develop new custom AI chips that will be used in Meta's AI data centers. Meta shares climbed 1%.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Meta said that the scale of the deal is large enough that Broadcom CEO Hock Tan will leave Meta's board and transition to a special advisor role instead.

Broadcom's string of recent chip deals could boost enthusiasm for its stock and ease investor concerns about the sustainability of financing in the AI sector.

Just earlier this month, Broadcom announced deals with Alphabet's (GOOGL) Google and Anthropic. Shares of the AI chipmaker have surged recently thanks to the deals, amid a broader rally on hopes a deal to end the war in Iran could come soon.

With Wednesday's gains, Broadcom shares are up around 14% since the start of the year, while Meta has added close to 2%.
