Aker BP and TotalEnergies increase stakes in Johan Sverdrup

Investing.com -- Norway’s Aker BP and France’s TotalEnergies received larger stakes in Norway’s Johan Sverdrup oilfield following a review process, the companies said on Monday.

Aker BP’s stake in the North Sea field increased to 31.7163% from 31.5733%. TotalEnergies raised its stake to 8.72% from 8.44%, according to the company.

The stake held by Norway’s state-owned Petoro decreased to 16.94% from 17.36%, TotalEnergies said.

TotalEnergies and Aker BP requested an independent review of their stakes in the oilfield in 2025 to increase their holdings. The process revised ownership shares based on updated technical and production data.

Aker BP will receive an additional 2.2 million barrels of oil equivalent from the field over the next two years, reflecting a reallocation of historic production volumes. The company will pay around 300 million crowns ($31.7 million) before tax to reflect its share of past investment.

TotalEnergies said the redetermination would increase its share of future production and cash flows along with a one-off adjustment of past allocations since startup in 2019.

The redetermination does not affect ongoing operations at Johan Sverdrup, which is operated by Equinor. The majority state-owned Equinor said its stake remains unchanged at 42.6267%.

Johan Sverdrup is western Europe’s largest oil producer.
