Apple announced new accessibility features that integrate its Apple Intelligence technology with existing tools including VoiceOver, Magnifier, Voice Control, and Accessibility Reader. The updates are scheduled to arrive later this year.
The VoiceOver feature will provide more detailed image descriptions using Apple Intelligence, allowing users who are blind or have low vision to receive enhanced information about photographs, scanned documents, and other visual content. Users can press the Action button on iPhone to ask questions about what appears in the camera viewfinder and receive detailed responses.
Voice Control will incorporate natural language processing, enabling users with physical disabilities to navigate iPhone and iPad using descriptive phrases rather than memorizing specific labels or numbers. Accessibility Reader will handle more complex documents including scientific articles with multiple columns, images, and tables. The feature will include on-demand summaries and built-in translation capabilities while maintaining custom formatting preferences.
Apple will introduce generated subtitles for uncaptioned video content across its ecosystem, including iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Vision Pro. The on-device speech recognition creates subtitles automatically for personal videos and shared content.
A new Apple Vision Pro feature will allow users to control compatible power wheelchairs using eye tracking. The system will work with TOLT Technologies and LUCI alternative drive systems in the United States, supporting both Bluetooth and wired connections.
The company also announced the global availability of the Hikawa Grip & Stand for iPhone, an adaptive MagSafe accessory designed for users with disabilities affecting grip, strength, and mobility. The accessory is now available in three colors through the Apple Store online.
