When doing qualitative business analysis, do you use any tools specifically to visualize frameworks like Porter's 5 Forces, Helmer's 7 Powers, SWOT, moat analysis, etc, or do you keep everything as text notes?
I've found that mapping these frameworks visually is helpful:
- gaps in the analysis sometimes become more obvious * exploration and iteration become easier * looking at something visually sometimes is what it makes it click
Right now I'm using generic tools (mind maps and diagram apps), but none of them is investment-specific, so I found myself spending too much time making such diagrams. I would love to have something like:
- reusable templates for 5 Forces / 7 Powers * primitives (for example nodes) tailored to investing
I am actually really curious how other approach this.
- Do you visualize these frameworks at all, or keep them as text narrative only? * If you visualize them, what tools do you use? (diagram apps, note-taking apps, whiteboards, etc.) * Has anyone found something purpose-built for investment research, or do you just adapt general tools?
I'm not necessarily looking for an app specifically designed for investing. More like some way to visualize qualitative analysis frameworks in a consistent and reusable way.
