Key insights

  • Quantum computing stocks are surging, driven by World Quantum Day and positive news from companies like IONQ and RGTI. While Mizuho trimmed its price target for QBTS, analysts remain bullish. The sector's high valuations are based on future potential rather than current fundamentals. QTUM ETF offers diversified exposure. Overall, the sector's momentum may have a slightly positive, but limited, impact on broader US equities.
Quantum Computing theme up 8.48% today, here's what's actually driving it

today is world quantum day (april 14, tied to planck's constant 4.14×10⁻¹⁵ eV·s, yes really) and the market is treating it like a genuine catalyst.

the quantum computing theme is the top gainer on bullsmeet's trending themes today at +8.48%.

what's moving: QBTS is up close to 11%, pushing above $16 after a steady march from the mid-$12s since late march. mizuho trimmed its price target from $40 to $31 but kept an outperform rating, still seeing massive upside from here. 13 analysts with a unanimous strong buy, average target around $38. that's a lot of conviction on a stock trading at 200x sales.

IONQ is also running. IonQ recently hit 99.99% fidelity on an industry accuracy test ,a world record ,and is targeting a 256-qubit system this year. pure-play exposure with cloud access through AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.

RGTI just debuted a 108-qubit system today which added fuel to the fire.

my read: the pure play names (QBTS, IONQ, RGTI) are trading on story + momentum right now. fundamentals are basically nonexistent at this stage, QBTS has $24.6M in revenue at a multi billion dollar valuation. you're not buying earnings, you're buying a long duration bet on the technology becoming real commercial infrastructure.

if you want diversified exposure without single stock risk, QTUM (Defiance Quantum ETF) mixes the pure-plays with larger semis and software names.

i track quantum computing + other trending themes daily on bullsmeet if you want to see what else is moving.
