Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Technology, Basic Materials and Oil & Gas sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.35%, while the S&P 500 index lost 2.64%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 4.18%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG), which rose 4.09% or 5.76 points to trade at 146.54 at the close. Meanwhile, Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO) added 3.49% or 2.68 points to end at 79.48 and Travelers Companies (NYSE:TRV) was up 3.37% or 9.89 points to 303.25 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO), which fell 6.43% or 8.36 points to trade at 121.64 at the close. NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) declined 6.20% or 13.56 points to end at 205.10 and International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) was down 5.61% or 16.92 points to 284.84.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Cooper Companies Inc (NASDAQ:COO) which rose 8.58% to 67.34, Kimberly-Clark Corp (NASDAQ:KMB) which was up 6.28% to settle at 99.04 and Clorox Co (NYSE:CLX) which gained 5.02% to close at 94.14.

The worst performers were Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) which was down 18.01% to 56.07 in late trade, Micron Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MU) which lost 13.25% to settle at 864.01 and Teradyne Inc (NASDAQ:TER) which was down 12.03% to 357.93 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Scage Future ADR (NASDAQ:SCAG) which rose 194.58% to 0.84, Springview Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:SPHL) which was up 125.74% to settle at 5.35 and Inotiv Inc (NASDAQ:NOTV) which gained 91.80% to close at 0.17.

The worst performers were Nuwellis Inc (NASDAQ:NUWE) which was down 61.21% to 0.17 in late trade, Nyxoah SA (NASDAQ:NYXH) which lost 49.65% to settle at 1.45 and Cypherpunk Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:CYPH) which was down 47.14% to 0.52 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1948 to 821 and 61 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2534 fell and 902 advanced, while 146 ended unchanged.

Shares in Nuwellis Inc (NASDAQ:NUWE) fell to all time lows; down 61.21% or 0.26 to 0.17. Shares in Nyxoah SA (NASDAQ:NYXH) fell to all time lows; losing 49.65% or 1.43 to 1.45.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 40.06% to 21.57 a new 1-month high.

Gold Futures for August delivery was down 3.49% or 157.28 to $4,347.72 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 2.92% or 2.72 to hit $90.32 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 2.09% or 1.99 to trade at $93.04 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.75% to 1.15, while USD/JPY rose 0.16% to 160.20.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.66% at 100.04.
