Asian space stocks rise following bumper SpaceX IPO

Investing.com-- Asian stocks with exposure to space technology and rockets rose on Friday following a bumper initial public offering from SpaceX, which ramped up optimism over more capital flows into the sector.

Japan’s Mitsubishi Electric Corp (TYO:6503) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (TYO:7011)– both of which have contracts with the country’s space agency, adding 1.7% and 1.2%, respectively.

Rocket engine component maker IHI Corp. (TYO:7013) rose 3.4%, satellite operator SKY Perfect JSAT Holdings Inc. (TYO:9412) jumped 6.3%, while among smallcaps, Astroscale added 5.9%.

Chinese markets held the biggest concentration of space-exposed stocks. China Satellite Communications Co Ltd (SS:601698) added 6.2%, while China Spacesat Co Ltd (SS:600118) rose 3.2%. Lens Technology Co Ltd (HK:6613), which had flagged strong opportunities in space as a growth driver, added 3% in Hong Kong trade.

Shenzhen Sunway Communication (SZ:300136), which is a supplier to SpaceX’s Starlink satellite unit, rose 2%, while Western Superconducting Tech Co Ltd (SS:688122), which supplies specialty metals for rockets, added 3.1%.

SpaceX (NASDAQ:SPCX) said it had raised $75 billion at a valuation of $1.77 trillion its IPO on Thursday, marking the biggest public market debut in U.S. history. Shares of the firm are set to begin trading on the Nasdaq on Friday.

Investors bought largely into Elon Musk’s promises of artificial intelligence data centers in space and rocket missions to Mars, with SpaceX’s market capitalization seen at roughly 90 times its 2025 revenue.

Its satellite telecommunications unit Starlink currently represents the company’s biggest revenue earner, while its rockets and xAI units both clocked heavy losses in 2025.
