Stratasys begins qualification program for SAF PA12 nylon material

Stratasys Ltd. (SSYS) launched a qualification program for SAF PA12, a production-ready nylon material designed for selective absorption fusion technology in aerospace and industrial applications, according to a company statement.

The program involves industry partners including Boeing, General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc., Northrop Grumman, and Raytheon, along with additive manufacturing service bureaus Additive at Scale, Bifrost Manufacturing, 3D Composites, Rapid PSI, and Stratasys Direct Manufacturing.

The qualification uses the NCAMP (National Center for Advanced Materials Performance) materials qualification process. The initiative extends Stratasys’ AIS advanced industrial solution package to SAF technology, applying a framework for material performance, consistency and traceability in production environments.

SAF PA12 nylon powder was developed to meet performance, consistency, and traceability requirements for production environments. The qualification aims to shorten material qualification timelines for manufacturers moving from initial adoption to routine manufacturing using SAF technology.

"SAF technology is designed to help manufacturers address the realities of production—throughput, consistency, and cost efficiency at scale," said Rich Garrity, President and Chief Business Unit Officer at Stratasys. "Validating SAF PA12 for industrial use cases reduces barriers to enterprise adoption by expanding where and how customers can apply the technology."

The Advanced Industrial Solution brings together materials, process control, and traceability to help manufacturers move from qualification into production. Extending AIS to SAF technology broadens access to production-ready polymer additive manufacturing beyond Stratasys’ initial AIS platforms.
