- MongoDB's stock dropped 15% following the immediate resignation of its CEO, Chirantan Desai, who is moving to Meta Platforms to lead a new AI initiative. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the creation of the "Meta Enterprise Platform" and hired Desai to spearhead its B2B AI efforts. MongoDB has appointed former CEO Dev Ittycheria as interim CEO and reaffirmed its guidance, but the departure of its top executive to a rival in the AI space raises concerns.

Investing.com -- Wall Street got a massive shock on Monday as MongoDB shares plunged 15% following the abrupt resignation of President and CEO Chirantan "CJ" Desai. Effective immediately, Desai is leaving the database giant to spearhead a massive new AI initiative at Meta Platforms.
The high-profile poaching comes as Meta capitalizes on the wildly successful consumer rollout of "Muse," its autonomous, web-navigating AI agent. Now, Meta is turning its sights on the B2B market—and they’ve tapped Desai to lead the charge.
Confirming the move on X, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the launch of "Meta Enterprise Platform," framing Desai’s newly created role around the company’s "next major pillar." The division aims to package Meta’s elite AI stack—including the Muse agent, Meta Business Agent, and Muse Code—directly for businesses and developers.
"We believe superintelligence will create significant new opportunities for all people and businesses," Zuckerberg posted. "To lead this effort, I’m excited that Chirantan ’CJ’ Desai will join Meta as Chief Enterprise Platform Officer, reporting directly to me."
Zuckerberg highlighted Desai’s elite tech pedigree across Cloudflare and ServiceNow, calling him a leader with a "track record of building full-stack software and delivering results in AI" who will help businesses "grow and transform in new ways."
To stop the bleeding back at MongoDB, the board quickly tapped a familiar face to steady the ship: Dev Ittycheria, who previously served as the company’s CEO from 2014 to 2025. Ittycheria steps in as interim CEO while the board launches a search for a permanent replacement.
Despite the sudden leadership vacuum, MongoDB is fighting to project stability. The company reaffirmed its Q3 and full-year fiscal 2027 guidance and is moving full steam ahead with Tuesday’s Investor Day at the Nasdaq MarketSite. But with Meta’s bottomless pockets and AI ambitions openly poaching top talent from the enterprise software sector, the pressure is on MongoDB’s interim leadership to prove its long-term strategy remains intact.
