European automakers adopt Nvidia Hyperion for autonomous vehicles

Nvidia (NVDA) announced at its GTC Berlin conference that several European automakers and mobility providers are building autonomous vehicle programs on its Hyperion computing platform, according to a company press release dated Oct. 21, 2026.

Bolt, in partnership with Lucid, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, and Einride are showcasing autonomous-mobility use cases on Hyperion for level 3 and level 4 vehicles and robotaxi fleets. Volvo Cars is adopting Hyperion alongside Nvidia’s Alpamayo Stack software for automated driving.

Bolt selected Nvidia Alpamayo Stack for its European robotaxi program using future Lucid vehicles built on Hyperion. The company plans to begin collecting real-world driving data in Madrid in 2027, subject to regulatory approval, as part of a planned rollout of at least 25,000 level 4-capable vehicles across Europe, with Germany identified as a priority market.

Mercedes-Benz is extending its partnership with Nvidia on Hyperion and Alpamayo Stack to develop L3 and L4 capabilities. The company also said its MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO system, developed with Nvidia, is seeking approval for urban driver assistance in Germany.

Einride is using Hyperion for its next-generation autonomous freight truck platform, while TIER IV and the Technical University of Munich plan to integrate Hyperion for autonomous public transportation in Germany.

Nvidia introduced Halos SAFE, described as a Safety Assurance Framework for Evaluation, combining simulation and physical testing to generate traceable safety evidence for autonomous vehicle deployment. Partners including dSPACE, IVEX, and TÜV Rheinland are collaborating on evaluation workflows within the framework.

Nvidia also announced several new development tools, including Alpamayo 2 Edge, a 2-billion-parameter reasoning model optimized for the Nvidia DRIVE AGX Thor platform, and Alpamayo Agentic Factory, an open blueprint expected to be available in early 2027.

Porsche is leading a data workflow initiative across Volkswagen Group brands using Nvidia Cosmos Data Factory and Microsoft Azure, with the company claiming the effort could reduce repeated physical test drives by up to 90% and shorten development cycles by up to 85%.

Uber and Nvidia are jointly developing a data factory powered by Cosmos as part of a broader partnership that includes AI infrastructure and Hyperion-based vehicles.
